How to Brew
Fresh worm castings make a living tea. Brew it, use it soon, and give your garden a happy wiggle.
What's in your kit
- Fresh pure worm castings
- Aeration pump
- Brew bag
- Dangle stick
- PE gloves
- Unsulfured molasses
You supply a clean brewing bucket. Use non-chlorinated water (let tap water sit out, or use rain/filtered water).
Kit sizes
2-Cup Kit About 2–6 gallons of brew, or up to about 20 gallons of foliar spray when diluted.
5-Cup Kit About 5–15 gallons of brew, or up to about 50 gallons of foliar spray when diluted.
Brew steps
- Put on the gloves. Fill your container with warm, non-chlorinated water.
- Place the fresh castings in the brew bag and secure it. Add any dry additives (alfalfa meal, etc). Hang it in the water with the dangle stick so the bag is submerged.
- Add unsulfured molasses (about 1 tablespoon packet per gallon). Stir to mix.
- Hook up the aeration pump, lower the hose to the bottom of the container, and run air for 24 hours to 36 hours (24 hours is ideal).
- When it looks dark brown, like strong tea, stir, remove the bag, and squeeze it into the container. Spent castings go on soil or compost.
- Water as brewed, or dilute to light brown (weak tea) for foliar spray.
- Use within 2–24 hours. Living microbes fade fast. Fresh is best.
Simple ratios
- About 1 cup castings per 1 gallon of water
